Here you see the tip of a screwdriver with 2 pieces of silicone tubing holding a screw. This is an easy way to get screws in places there is not enough space for your hands.
Many portable instruments are hard to repair because they need to “spread out” and the only thing keeping the parts together are the fragile flatcables. To solve this I make a fixture from a plastic-foamed sheet. Under the PCB I cut away the foam to give me acces to the components. If I now need to measure or solder on the other side I just flip the whole fixture and there is no mechanical stress on the flatcables.
The PCB is mounted with bolts, the rest with rubber bands.
